new inc: the changing nature of design culture
There is a zeitgeist in design I have witnessed materialize over the past 5 years - while monetary compensation in the technology industry remains high, designers increasingly want to feel they are doing work that has a positive impact on the world as a whole. This need for meaningful work has been especially present in 2017. My personal research at the University of Washington has allowed me to compile data directly from students on what the most desirable aspects of potential design employers are.
working with start ups
NEW INC is the first ever museum led startup incubator, an offspring of the New Museum in New York City. The space functions as a co-working hub, where the entrepreneurs in residence work closely with mentors and guests.
Leading envisioning sessions with entrepreneurs in residence, I conducted exercises to imagine their future work environments and reviewed data from my research to discuss trends.
I worked closely with young designers in one on one sessions to understand their areas of focus and give business and design guidance related to their entrepreneurial initiatives.
